History

Ancient civilisations such as Egypt, India, and Mesopotamia 2000 BC used this stone for talismans, amulets, trinkets, and writing slabs. Legends state that the Egyptians cut Ch. 7 of the 'Book of the Dead' on an enormous stone of amazonite and even a special scarab ring was found in King Tutankhamun’s burial chamber. Legends also state that Amazonian warrior princesses in Brazil used this gemstone on their shields, and to recuperate wounds. This gorgeous crystal was first officially reported as a semi-precious mineral in 1847 by A. Breithaupt.

Science & Origin

 Amazonite is a type of feldspar mineral composed of silicon dioxide and aluminium silicate and gets its beautiful blue-green colour from quantities of lead and water in the feldspar. The name “Amazonite” comes from the Amazon River, where it was first discovered, and it’s found in abundance. Main sources include Brazil, USA, and Madagascar.
