History

Archaeologists have discovered artifacts in Ethiopia (Omo Valley) such as tumbles, beads, amulets, and talismans recorded as 2.5 million years old. The hardness and durability of the Aventurine made it a viable tool for early civilizations globally. The early Tibetans used Aventurine in decorating and designing buildings, statues, and other art forms; they believed the statues they crafted gained a heightened power of vision. Aventurine is also called the Amazon's Stone because a significant amount of this stone's deposit was made as pieces of jewellery for the warrior queens of the Amazon. The stone also served as their guide in all their undertakings, such as battles, and the shine of this gemstone elevated their royalty. It was first reported in 1837 by J.D. Dan, and the “Aventurine” name derives from the Italian word "a ventura" meaning "by chance" due to its resemblance to the accidentally discovered industrial goldstone, also known as aventurine glass.

Science & Origin

Aventurine is a silicon dioxide mineral and a microcrystalline member of the Quartz family. Its colour changes depending on its impurities, the shade green is a product of tiny Fuchsite particles, whereas Orange and Red Aventurine’s colour comes from tiny inclusions of Hematite or Goethite. Currently, the majority of Aventurine is extracted in India but is also found in Tanzania, Brazil, Chile, Spain, Russia, and North Asia.
