History

Civilastions used the word Citron for any gemstone with the colour yellow, and citrine was commonly referenced in the old texts due to its high vibrations. It was believed Citrine was a gift from the Sun. Citrine was used to decorate jewellery and tools but it first gained significance as a golden-yellow gemstone in Greece during the Hellenistic Age between 300 and 150 BC becoming a prized possession. After Citrine’s introduction to parts of Europe, it quickly became a trendy jewellery, in clothing and furniture as well, being popular in the Art Deco Era. Queen Victoria loved this stone and Citrine was used in line with other precious and expensive quartz in the Victorian Era. Today, this gorgeous gemstone is loved and promoted by many celebs including Kate Winslet and Kate Middleton.

Science & Origin

Citrine is a yellowish/brownish form of Quartz Crystal that gains its colour from the submicroscopic distribution of colloidal ferric hydroxide impurities and heat at the time of formation. It is found crystallized in the same form as Quartz: Trigonal or Hexagonal forms. Citrine gets its name from the Latin word Citrina which means yellow. Sometimes Citrine forms with Amethyst which is referred to as Ametrine. The majority of Citrine comes from Brazil, Rio Grande dol Sul but large deposits can also be found in Sri Lanka, India and Madagascar.
