History
The use of Rose Quartz can be dated back to ancient times and formed a large part of the Assyrian arts and crafts as early as 7000BC. The Assyrians were also the first ones to utilise Rose Quartz’s spiritual properties in their ceremonies and practices. The Native Americans used it for alleviating physical disorders. The Romans, Greeks, and Egyptians used Rose Quartz in facial masks and cosmetic products as an anti-aging component to reduce wrinkles and enhance youthfulness of the skin. Today, it is still widely used in beauty products from crystal-infused face creams, and oil rollers to face massagers. In East-Asia Rose Quartz represents love and is used in their carvings and lucky charms. As far as jewellery goes, Assyrians, Babylonians, and many ancient civilisations used Rose Quartz jewellery thousands of years ago and it's not different today; Rose Quartz is still amongst the most popular gemstones representing love, beauty, and harmony.
Science & Origin
Quartz crystal is an igneous rock made of silicon dioxide and it is commonly found in sedimentary and metamorphic rocks, usually crystallizes from molten magma but can also precipitate from hot hydrothermal veins or with other minerals. Rose Quartz is one of the most popular high-vibrational Quartz crystals and exhibits a pale pink to rose red hue which is usually due to trace amounts of titanium, iron, or manganese in the mineral. Recent studies using X-ray diffraction suggest that the colour is due to microscopic fibers of dumortierite within the quartz. Some forms can also contain microscopic rutile needles that produce asterism in transmitted light; a star-shaped concentration of light reflected from the gemstone shaped in cabochon. A rare type of crystalline rose quartz, also known as Pink Quartz, containing aluminium and phosphate impurities is more transparent and euhedral in appearance. Rose Quartz’s high vibrations are also used in other industries due to its piezoelectric properties; the Quartz crystals develop electrical potential with mechanical stress applied.
The first crystals were found in a pegmatite in Minas Gerais and Rumford, today, it is primarily mined in Brazil, Madagascar, and USA.
